materials for (in)visible pins:
•LEDs
You can buy LEDs from many sources, including your local Radio Shack. If you are buying infrared LEDs in bulk, you can save money by purchasing from LEDS4less.com. Also, you can save money by ordering from China through hebeiltd.com.

•Conductive thread
I use 117/17 x 2ply silverized thread from Fine Silver products (fine-silver-productsnet.com). This is a large, industrial-size spool that conducts well but is a bit tricky to use in a sewing machine. It has a resistance of about 25 ohms/inch. Lame Lifesaver (members.shaw.ca/ubik/thread/order.html) sells a good, conductive thread on the traditional-size spool, but does not always have the product in stock.

•Batteries + Battery-holders
For cheap 3v batteries, try cheapbatteries.com. The battery holders I found most useful are "small pad pattern" one and two cell battery holders from electronic suppliers like Keystone Electronics (keyelco.com) or Digi-key (digikey.com). The part number is 1061 for the one cell and 1062 for the two cell holders.

•Felt and Fabrics
I used felt for all of my patches because it is cheap and easy to sew both in the machine and by hand. For the backside, I usually used a stiffened felt called Eazy felt available at Michael's or online at S&S. There are also conductive fabrics that are available through LessEMF.com.
